Skilled job vacancies jump up in August

Skilled job vacancies rose 1 percent in August, the first increase since November 2007, according to new data.

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) skilled vacancies index in August was 37.1 points, 55.7 percent lower than in August 2008.

Professional vacancies rose 0.7 percent, trades were up 1.0 percent and associate professionals increased 2.0 percent.

DEEWR said increases were seen in the number of vacancies in eleven of the 18 occupational groups comprising the survey, with the biggest increase coming from the building and engineering professions.
