The Advantage Job Index, which looks at jobs advertised online, grew 1.59 percent in February, with the largest increases in job ads in NSW.
The index rose for the eighth month in the past nine, lead primarily by white-collar vacancies rising.
In commenting on the report, Advantage Professional director Robert Olivier said February numbers indicated a mixed outlook for the labour market, with only 10 of the 16 sectors showing increases in job advertisements.
“The RBA (Reserve Bank of Australia) has signalled there will be further rate rises, but despite the optimism there may not be a great depth of confidence among employers yet,” Mr Olivier said in a statement.
“This month NSW was a top performer, growing 3.57 per cent, Victoria following up closely with 2.91 per cent,” he said.
The surge in white collar job ads was lead by ads for jobs in law which rose by 11.41 percent and jobs in accounting which rose 10.02 percent.
“The legal sector has seen some upheaval lately, with global firms head-hunting among the leading local talent,” Mr Olivier said.
“It’s further proof that Australian business has to compete internationally for top performers.”
Further reinforcing the white collar result were an 8.11 percent rise in information technology and telecommunications vacancies.
The Advantage Job Index surveyed 177,729 positions vacant ads each week in February to compile the results.
