More than 1,600 women turned out in force at 7am on Friday morning for a breakfast with national treasure Olivia Newton-John.
In a relaxed interview on stage with Network 10 newsreader Natarsha Belling, the Grease star spoke about her career, her fight with breast cancer, wellness, her charity work and her new cookbook Liv-Wise.
The event was run by the networking group Business Chicks which is run by young entrepreneur Emma Isaacs. Its three prominent values are to learn and grow, to meet likeminded people and to give something back (in the form of either learning, friendship, altruism, professional development or networking).
Attendee Liana Lorenzato, director of LSquaredInc, said: “Not only is Olivia Newton-John an inspiring business person, but also a very generous soul who believes in a holistic way of business. She encourages you to think of ways to give back to community and promote that health, family and business all have a place in ones life. It’s about balance!”
Alexx Stuart of Luxury Tastings, said: “To see the most gorgeous and humble Aussie icon we have in action and to meet a whole new table full of business chicks was a truly fab morning. The breakfasts really do lift my mood and productivity because of how energetic they are, and for a sole trader, it’s always great to be in and amongst something big and exciting!”
David Moore, owner of Gloss Salon in Crows Nest, clearly isn’t a chick but he is a huge Olivia fan. He said of his first Business Chicks event: “I can spot a sales gimmick at 100 paces and I was pleased to discover Business Chicks is the real deal. I’m sure the 1,600 members who attended this event agree with me. Olivia Newton-John was as honest and candid as she always is but there’s something special about hearing someone talk about their life’s triumphs and struggles in person as to reading or watching an interview. Things resonate deeper and have a more profound effect on you. This business bloke was suitably impressed with Business Chicks and I’m excited to see what’s next.”
Business Chicks holds over 60 events around the country every year. Previous speakers have included Napoleon Perdis, Sir Richard Branson and Li Cunxin from Mao’s Last Dancer.
Having just launched a student membership, Business Chicks aspires to be the “must have” membership for all businesswomen, whatever their career stage, in Australia.
