MYOB and Microsoft join forces to bring AI tools to Australian small businesses

MYOB and Microsoft have announced a five-year partnership to embed AI tools directly into the platform millions of Australian small businesses already use.

What’s happening: MYOB and Microsoft have announced a five-year strategic partnership to co-develop and embed AI tools across MYOB’s business management platform. The first jointly developed features are expected to be unveiled later in 2026.

Why this matters: MYOB is one of the most widely used accounting and business management platforms among Australian small businesses.

MYOB and Microsoft have signed a five-year agreement to jointly fund and build AI-powered tools across MYOB’s platform, with a focus on reducing manual work and improving decision-making for small and mid-sized business owners.

Under the partnership, Microsoft will provide dedicated engineering support to work alongside MYOB’s technology teams, with the stated aim of accelerating feature development from months to weeks. The collaboration will use Microsoft’s cloud and AI infrastructure, including tools for deploying and governing AI agents at scale.

Simon Noonan, Chief Technology Officer of MYOB, described the partnership as central to the company’s broader platform ambitions. “Our vision is for MYOB to be the business hub for Australian and New Zealand businesses,” he said. “The place where data, workflows and AI come together to help local businesses start, survive and succeed.”

Steven Miller, Area Vice President of Microsoft Australia and New Zealand, framed the partnership in terms of practical business impact. “This partnership is about turning responsible AI into practical, everyday impact for MYOB customers, helping them reduce manual work, spot issues earlier, and make clearer decisions,” he said.

What SME owners can expect

The announced features for small business customers include intelligent agents embedded within MYOB that forecast cash flow, guide compliance readiness, and surface proactive insights within the platform. For mid-market customers using MYOB’s Acumatica platform, the partnership includes new AI capabilities covering contextual financial insights, natural language queries and automated document processing.

The partnership also includes an internal AI Academy within MYOB, designed to build capability across the company’s technology and customer-facing teams, and an extension of MYOB’s existing AI Everyday program for staff.

MYOB’s Bi-Annual Business Monitor, the company’s own research, found that 29% of Australian SMEs have adopted dedicated AI tools for their business. That figure, cited in the announcement, reflects how much of the small business market has yet to engage with AI in any structured way, and positions this partnership as an attempt to reach that majority through software they already use.

What is not yet confirmed

The announcement does not confirm specific pricing, release dates for individual features, or details on how existing MYOB subscribers will access the new tools. The first jointly developed AI features and customer-facing experiences are expected to be unveiled later in 2026, under a “Powered by Microsoft” banner across MYOB’s products.

For small business owners currently using MYOB, the practical implication is that AI-powered features are coming to the platform, but the timeline and specifics remain to be confirmed. Owners evaluating accounting software in the near term should note that the features described in this announcement are not yet available.
