August retail turnover up 0.6 percent

Some good news has been spelled out in the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Retail Trade figures, with retail turnover rising 0.6 percent in August.

This rise follows an 0.6 percent rise the previous month, with trend turnover up 0.2 percent in August.

Turnover rose 1.7 percent in Household goods retailing, 0.6 percent in Food retailing, 1.2 percent in Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services and 0.3 percent in Other retailing.

Turnover was down -0.8 percent in Department Stores and -0.3 percent in Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing.

Turnover rose 1 percent in New South Wales, 0.5 percent in Queensland, 0.9 percent in Western Australia, 0.3 percent in Victoria, 0.6 percent in South Australia, 0.8 percent in Tasmania and 0.3 percent in the Australian Capital Territory.

Turnover in the Northern Territory was relatively unchanged.
