Optus and Telstra ride off iPhone success

Telecommunication giants Optus and Telstra have both posted profits over 10 percent for 2008-09, off the back of the iPhone success.

SingTel, the parent company of Optus announced a 12 percent increase in revenue during 2008-09 due to a major gain in the number of mobile customers, fuelled by the demand for the Apple iPhone.

This growth was underpinned by demand for Apple iPhone 3G, other smart phones, and Timeless plans,” the telco said.

Telstra also posted a 10.3 percent rise in full-year profit to $4.07 billion, attributing the figures to higher mobile phone usage.
