Harvey Norman boss says Australia through the worst

Harvey Norman chairman, Gerry Harvey has said Australia is through the worst of the economic downturn, and consumers are now more positive than they were six months ago.

Mr Harvey told ABC’s Inside Business on Sunday that six or nine months ago it was like “Armageddon”, but now consumers are more positive.

“We’re certainly more confident than we were six or nine months ago so is it possible that confidence works? I think it is,” he said.

The furniture and electrical retailer posted total sales of $6.03 billion for the 12 months to the end of June, an increase of 3.8 percent on the previous period.
