Social media under spotlight with Gov 2.0 conference

A Gov 2.0 conference to be held in Canberra on October 19 will focus on the government’s use of social media and web 2.0 applications to encourage engagement and interaction with citizens.

Gov 2.0 is the first event to be held in Australia under the CeBIT Global Conferences and will feature a line up of speakers from across the globe and will report feedback to the Federal Government’s newly devised Government 2.0 Taskforce.

The Government 2.0 Taskforce will then report and make recommendations for the greater take up of interactive technologies to bridge the gap between government and citizens.

Federal Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner said Australians identify the internet as a means to interact with the government and they have specified areas where e-government services could be improved.

“Governments at all levels also need to recognise that they must adapt to a world in which interaction increasingly occurs online and that they will need to do so at a greater rate,” he added.
