As an ash cloud from a Chilean volcano once again forces the cancellation of flights in, out of and around Australia, many small businesses will need to re-assess their business contingency plans.
As workers remain stranded in various airports, the resulting loss of productivity and revenue will significantly impact small and medium businesses.
A poll of 400 SMBs and enterprises by remote access provider LogMeIn, found 68 percent of small businesses are unprepared for events that could prevent employees’ accessing the office, compared to just 30 percent of enterprises.
A recent spate of natural disasters, as well as continued issues with traffic congestion and public transport further highlights the need for small and medium businesses to have contingency plans in place for when such problems arise.
“Employees should be encouraged to have a contingency plan in place when these events arise, and be the tools that enable them to stay productive when out of the office – from communications to remote computer access,” LogMeIn Regional Director Andy Farquharson said.
