To help businesses struggling with staff shortages, the NSW Government has announced an easing of requirements to encourage interstate hospitality workers.
Through the Automatic Mutual Recognition initiative, also called JobPass, certified Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) staff from other Australian states will be able to work in NSW without needing new credentials.
“The industry has experienced incredible hardship over the past two years and that’s why we need to do everything we can to support it and get businesses booming and the sector thriving once again,” Kevin Anderson, Minister for Hospitality and Racing, said.
“Previously, hospitality workers who wanted to temporarily work in NSW had to spend time and money getting additional RSA certification. This initiative makes it easier for RSA holders to get working as soon as they arrive.”
An RSA competency card is required to work in restaurants that serve alcohol, bottle shops, bars and clubs, and other roles within the liquor industry. These cards are valid for five years.
In NSW, the hospitality sector accounts for over 2 per cent of total gross value added to the economy.
This announcement comes on the heels of the NSW Government’s recent funding of 10,000 free RSA courses to encourage more workers to join the hospitality sector and incentivise former workers to return.
