Millions flocked to the internet overnight to watch Michael Jackson’s live memorial service, with fans jumping on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter to post comments about the star and to remember his life.
Social networking site Twitter was overwhelmed with Jackson talk, and had to shut down a few times during the webcast, giving users the notorious “fail whale.” According to social media site Mashable, during the service, tweets relating to Jackson occupied all ten slots on the “Trending Topics.”
Jackson also became the most popular person on Facebook, with one million Facebook members worldwide weighing in online with Michael Jackson comments while watching live streaming of the King of Pop’s memorial service, according to reports in The Australian.
Facebook marketing director Randi Zuckerberg said comments tied to the CNN Live video feed peaked at 6000 per minute.
