CreativeCubes.Co launches ninth Pitch for a Spot competition, offering 12 months free office space
What’s happening: CreativeCubes.Co has launched its ninth Pitch for a Spot competition, offering 12 months of free office space at its new Balaclava venue, bringing total rent giveaways to $1 million since the program began.
Why this matters: With rent often being the largest initial expense for growing businesses, free workspace can provide crucial breathing room for startups to focus resources on product development and scaling operations instead of overhead costs.
Melbourne’s startup ecosystem continues to attract support as coworking community CreativeCubes.Co reaches a significant milestone in supporting emerging businesses through its innovative rent relief program.
Million-dollar milestone reached
CreativeCubes.Co has helped hundreds of startups scale through its Pitch For A Spot program, with this latest competition marking the ninth iteration of the initiative that has now distributed $1 million worth of free office space to emerging businesses.
The program targets the financial reality facing many startups – rent represents one of the heaviest initial burdens for businesses attempting to establish themselves in expensive metropolitan markets.
Winners of the current competition will secure 12 months of free workspace at the company’s brand-new Balaclava location, joining established companies including Cannatrek, Butn (ASX listed), Purpose Productions, and AI expert Justin Kabanni, as well as local leaders including MP David Southwick’s office.
Success stories emerge
The program has generated tangible results for past participants. Ben Chamberlin, founder of Authenticate, won desks in an earlier Pitch for a Spot campaign and has since scaled his team significantly, moving into a larger private office within CreativeCubes.Co.
The networking opportunities extend beyond the initial location, with CreativeCubes.Co members across other sites including household names such as Lululemon, Campari, Gami Chicken & Beer, Mortgage Choice and Strong Pilates.
Applications now open
The competition remains open exclusively to new CreativeCubes.Co members, targeting fresh businesses seeking to launch and scale without the financial strain of commercial rent commitments.
Key dates for interested applicants include applications closing on 3rd October 2025, with shortlisted applicants to be notified on 13th October 2025, culminating in the final pitch event and open day on 23rd October 2025.
Melbourne’s startup ecosystem has shown significant growth, creating increased demand for affordable workspace solutions that allow emerging businesses to focus capital on development rather than overhead expenses.
The initiative reflects broader industry recognition that traditional commercial lease structures can create barriers for innovative businesses seeking flexible, community-oriented workspace environments that support collaboration and networking opportunities.
