The political career of NSW Health Minister John Della Bosca is in doubt, amid allegations he had an extramarital affair with a 26-year-old woman.
The Health Minister last night announced his resignation from the Rees Government’s front bench, following reports in The Daily Telegraph of the alleged affair. This morning he faced up to the media, claiming he had “taken his medicine” and would serve out his term as a member of the Legislative Council.
In a statement made last night, Della Bosca said he didn’t want the matter to “be a distraction to a government which is working hard to improve services.”
According to the reports, the women in question contacted The Daily Telegraph with news of the affair. The Daily Telegraph reports today that the 26-year-old woman alleges Della Bosca stopped a security guard at Parliament House from checking her identification before the pair had sex in his parliament office; and that the minister had missed the launch of a regional hospital near Armidale on July 10, to spend time with her.
Last night Della Bosca said: “I’m not commenting on my marriage or any other personal matters. At no time did I breach my duties as a Minister or Member of Parliament.”
