Business Builders launches Between School Hours with $50k prize for parent-run businesses

Business Builders has launched a national search for Australia’s best businesses built between the school bell and the afternoon pick-up.

What’s happening: Business Builders has launched Between School Hours, a national competition searching for Australia’s most inspiring businesses built around family life.

Why this matters: Between School Hours is recognition that serious business and family flexibility are not mutually exclusive, and an opportunity for those doing it to be seen for it.

Business Builders has launched a national search it is calling Between School Hours, looking for the Australian businesses that get built in the time between morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

The competition is open from 9 June and the search is for business owners who are running something serious, not a side hustle or a passion project, but a genuine business built around the realities of family life.

The entry form asks applicants to share why they chose to build their business around school hours or caring responsibilities, a moment when those constraints actually forced them to work smarter, and the best business lesson they have learned from balancing the two.

Who can enter

The competition is open to any business owner running a business around school or caring responsibilities. That includes online stores, consultancies, creative agencies, trade businesses, professional services and anything in between. The focus is on businesses that are already operating and generating real outcomes, not ideas or early-stage projects.

The winner receives a prize package valued at $50,000. That includes a feature segment on Business Builders’ national TV show on the Seven Network, a social media boost across Business Builders’ channels, a hero article on the website shared with the newsletter audience, four professional social videos and a professional photography shoot. Terms and conditions apply.

Entries open on 9 June 2026 and close on 29 June. Finalists will be announced on 2 July, with public voting running from 2 July to 26 July. The winner will be announced on 27 July 2026.

Entries can be submitted at businessbuilders.com.au.
