LinkedIn has just announced that their Australian membership base has passed the four million members mark, a 300 percent growth since 2010.
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional networking site, attracting more than two new members every second. By December 2012, it was recorded to have more than 200 million members.
Over 80 percent of Australia’s five million professional population are on the platform. Companies are changing the way they hire talent, market their brand and sell more effectively by using the power of their networks. These companies include Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, AustralianSuper, Tourism Australia and Microsoft.
Managing Director for LinkedIn Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, Clifford Rosenberg said “Apart from using LinkedIn to build their professional identity, we are seeing a strong uptake from our Australian members leveraging LinkedIn as a professional content platform to discover and share insights.”
“The profile redesign, Influencer program and rapid product innovation have positioned LinkedIn as a real-time knowledge engine to find and share professional news and content that drives value and engagement for our members,” he continued.
Australian senior executives and entrepreneurs are also seen to be utilising LinkedIn to boost their professional brand. Names include Kate Vale, managing director of Spotify for Australia and New Zealand; entrepreneur Sharon Melamed, managing director of Matchboard.com.au; Matt Barrie, CEO of freelancer.com; and many more.
