Aussies rate among the worst when it comes to checking emails during the holidays.
A new survey shows over one third of Aussies, or 35 per cent, check work emails during holidays. What’s more, as a nation we’re actually planning to monitor various accounts over the Christmas break.
This number is significantly higher in Australia than elsewhere around the globe. Abroad, 26 per cent of Brits, 29 per cent of Canadians and 25 per cent of Kiwi’s plan to check emails during the festive season.
Interestingly, the most recent Randstad Workmonitor found on the whole, employers don’t actually expect employees or business contacts to be available at all times over the holiday period.
Steve Shepherd, Group Director of HR and recruitment at Randstad said while it’s positive to want to remain productive over the holidays, it’s also important to take time out to rejuvenate and unwind.
“We all know the business world doesn’t stop over summer, however it’s important to take a well-earned break over the Christmas period in order to recharge for the upcoming year,” Shepherd said.
“While this can be difficult in a high-paced, high performing environment, and with technologies making it easier than ever to be at work from anywhere in the world, all of us should try to make a point of switching off for even a small part of the festive period.”
