Much has been made of the brain drain in the Australian startup space as talent heads to Silicon Valley to find success – but the local future still continues to get brighter.
Google Australia and General Assembly today announced the launch of Introduction to Startup Entrepreneurship, a free 8-week online summer school for aspiring young startup founders.
The course will cover four key units: how to develop an idea, design and the user experience, working with developers, and how to market a startup.
Ten participants will then be chosen to attend a two-day startup boot camp at Google’s Sydney base to develop their idea and further their entrepreneurial skills.
The new Federal Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, attended the launch, and spoke of the need to encourage innovation in tech to keep Australia’s prosperous economy on track.
Alan Noble, engineering director for Google Australia, said there’s no shortage of problems out there for tech startups to solve, and hopes that the program will encourage more young Australians to follow their entrepreneurial passions.
