Employee charged with theft of 23,000 printer cartridges

A printer and photocopying business in the Sydney suburb of Homebush Bay has seen an employee charged with theft, after the man stole some 23,000 printer toner cartridges and on-sold them privately.

Police allege the thefts occurred between 2005 and September this year, whilst the 35-year old was employed by the business. Upon searching the man’s unit on Eve Street at Erskineville, where they allegedly seized 313 stolen toner cartridges.

The total retail value of the goods stolen totals close to $2.4 million.

At this stage, investigators have just laid charges in relation to the thefts that occurred this year – close to 5000 items.

The man was charged last week with larceny as a clerk/servant at Auburn Police Station. He’s been granted bail and will appear in court on October 6.

Investigations are continuing and further charges will be laid.
