The next stage of Dynamic Business Magazine’s exciting crowdsourcing experiment is here! Now we want you, the readers, to decide what the November cover will look like.
Inspired by an interview with Mark Harbottle, Australian co-founder of design crowdsourcing website 99designs, the team decided to try out crowdsourcing for themselves, holding a contest on the site.
A $1,000 prize was put up for grabs, as well as the chance to have their design on the cover of the magazine and a profile within the issue. Designers have submitted 270 different cover designs in the past seven days.
Editor and publisher Jen Bishop and art director Chantelle Gregory picked their top three and you are now able to vote for your favourite until the end of the week (Sunday 16 October 2011).
Bishop said: “This has been a really interesting and exciting process. We received a lot of entries, many of them not up to scratch, but such is the nature of a contest where anyone can enter. It did make for an anxious few days while I questioned my decision to commit to seeing this through!
“As the week went on, designers started submitting some much better designs. We quickly learned that giving them feedback was a key part of the process and this was quite time-consuming but, overall, a good use of time. I’m really happy with the final three.”
“Crowdsourcing is definitely a topic everyone has an opinion on and I’ve had all manner of debates with people, which is great! You can read more about our 99designs crowdsourcing experience in the November issue.”
She added: “I’m really happy to now be giving our readers the opportunity to get involved with their magazine and vote for the cover they like best. I know a lot of our readers feel they have a real connection with the publication and this is a great way to increase our engagement with them.”
