Sydney airport ‘worst in country’

A report conducted by The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) of the performance of Australia’s airports, has found that Sydney airport is the worst performing in the country.

Sydney has ranked the ‘worst performer’ for service and value for the third year in a row. The assessment was conducted by passengers, airlines and government services such as Customs looking at the performance of the Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth airports.

The Sunshine State’s Brisbane airport was ranked the best airport, with customers generally satisfied with the overall performance, quality and price.

According to ACCC Chairman, Mr Graeme Samuel, overall satisfaction levels of airports have dropped.

“In 2007-08 airport users, including passengers, airlines, and government agencies, appeared to have a lower level of satisfaction with the airports’ overall quality of service.”

One of the main grievances was airport parking, with Sydney being the most expensive.

“There seems to be a complete lack of correlation between the charges that are being incurred by users of the airport and the quality of service that the airport is itself providing,” Samuel said.
