Google Australia (www.google.com.au) has revealed lists of the fastest rising search terms of 2009 so far, with ‘swine flu’ coming in at number one, while ‘Masterchef’ hit number three, and the ‘stimulus package’ came in at number four. Singing sensation ‘Susan Boyle’ also proved to be popular, coming in at number two on the list.
Google Australia used their Insights for Search tool to reveal some interesting trends in what Aussies are searching for.
Reality cooking show Masterchef was a hit with the Australian public, ranking number three on the fastest rising searches of 2009 list, and number one on the fastest rising TV shows, movies and games of 2009 list. The show also sparked a jump in the number of people searching for ‘comfort foods’ and ‘recipes.’
The results also revealed that Aussies have been heading online to understand their eligibility for the Government’s ‘stimulus package’ coming in at number four, while the fastest rising website search of 2009 was revealed to be the Australian Tax Office website (www.ato.gov.au).
In the fastest rising searches for products/services category, ‘twitter’ was registered as the most popular search term, as consumers attempt to better understand the social networking phenomenon.
