Australia Post has claimed that the postie strike scheduled for this week should not affect the delivery of Christmas mail.
Postal workers are scheduled to walk off the job on Tuesday amid a dispute over an enterprise agreement, but Alex Twomey from Australia Post said it shouldn’t affect mail services.
“We’ll have contingencies in place to ensure mail and Christmas presents continue to get through,” he said.
This second round of industrial action follows a strike last Wednesday when up to 20,000 Australia Post workers walked off the job or were involved in rolling stoppages, disrupting mail services.
According to the NSW secretary for The Communications, Electrical, Plumbing Union (CEPU), Australia Post had stonewalled the negotiation process, leaving no choice but for workers to engage in stoppages.
“We have been trying to negotiate for three years without any industrial action, and Australia Post still rejects our offer,” he told AAP.
