Mobile phone use increasing: survey
A new survey into Australian consumer mobile phone habits has revealed mobile phone usage is growing, in spite of the global financial crisis.
The  2009 Australian Mobile Phone Lifestyle Index, carried out in June 2009 and released by the AIMIA today, found that more Australians are embracing mobile phones and using them in all aspects of their life.
The report revealed that of the 3,710 respondents, 77 percent use their mobile phone for a purpose apart from texting, with 71 percent stating that in the last 12 months they used their mobile phone to access information and entertainment content and services.
Report author Dr Marisa Maio MacKay, director of research m.Net Corporation said that the uptake of mobile services in Australia has grown, in spite of the global financial crisis.
“Mobile phone services have now truly entrenched themselves as a commodity in the lives of many Australians,” she said.
The report also found that consumers are more accepting of mobile advertising, with 39 percent stating they would accept ads on their mobile phone in exchange for free mobile content.
John Butterworth, CEO for AIMIA said Australians are now using their mobile phones in all aspects of their lifestyles and have become “more attracted to buying and using content, information, multimedia and other data services… via their mobile handsets.”
