Jucy Rentals opens its first hotel in Auckland

New Zealand company Jucy Rentals is expanding into the hotel industry, with the opening of its first hotel in Auckland this month. jucy hotel

Jucy Rentals, originally a vehicle rentals company, generates $25 million a year, according to Top News, by appealing to the budget conscious traveller. The hotel will operate within a similar market, adopting a pay-as-you-go model so guests will only pay for services that they decide use.

The move into hotels is a natural extension of the brand in a market that already has a faithful following of locals and tourists, says Jucy CEO Tim Alpe.

“We don’t want to lumber people with charges for services they’re not using – if they don’t want their room cleaned or serviced while they are staying for a few days, they shouldn’t be paying for it. This means guests can opt for wireless connections or late checkouts, but they get to make the choice.”

Those wanting room service will pay an extra $15 on top of room rates that start at as little as NZD $49 a night for a private room with shared bathroom facilities or NZD $89 a night for a private room with an ensuite.

The hotel itself is a renovated, 60 room building at the centre of Auckland’s CBD.

The renovation was done so that to ensure the hotel has the same look and feel of the Jucy brand, says Mr Alpe.

“The renovation really captures the Jucy brand – it is a funky, fresh environment that makes use of the purple and green that you see on our cars and other offices. We’ve even got messages from Jucy Lucy on the walls.”
