FedEx launches facility in regional Victoria to aid local businesses

FedEx Express has unveiled a new facility in southeastern Victoria, solidifying its commitment to bolstering regional express freight services.

Covering an expansive area of 4,987 square metres, the state-of-the-art facility boasts an advanced automated sorting system capable of efficiently processing up to 1,400 packages per hour.

Situated in Morwell, this facility will play a pivotal role in aiding local enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized businesses within the Gippsland area, as they seek access to both domestic and international markets. With Regional Victoria contributing to 21% of the state’s small businesses and Gippsland witnessing a surge in such enterprises over the past year, this establishment becomes a vital conduit, linking intrastate and cross-border trade. The Gippsland region’s economic potential is projected to reach $2.66 billion GPR in the near future.

Strategically positioned near a major highway, the facility ensures swift access for express pick-up and delivery services, catering to locales like Traralgon, Leongatha, Sale, Morwell, Moe, Maffra, Yarram, Warragul, and Drouin. Beyond serving as a domestic and international collection hub, it offers comprehensive logistics solutions to local businesses.

Peter Langley, Vice President of FedEx Express Australasia, noted, “By leveraging new facilities such as our new Morwell station and expanding regional capacity, we enable Australian businesses to move freight in a faster and more efficient manner to people and businesses across the country – no matter where they are located.”

Aligned with FedEx’s global objective of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040, the facility incorporates eco-conscious design features to minimize environmental impact. These include energy-efficient LED lighting and the onsite collection and reuse of rainwater.

In addition to its local focus, FedEx is dedicated to facilitating international commerce for businesses by continually optimizing its suite of cross-border shipping services. This includes providing access to FedEx International Economy (IE) services, offering connections from the Asia Pacific region to 170 global markets. These services cater to a wide range of shipments, supporting businesses and individual shippers with varying levels of urgency.

As part of its ongoing investment in Australia, FedEx’s Morwell facility stands as a testament to its commitment to empower local businesses, enabling them to efficiently tap into both domestic and international markets.
