Eco-savvy conumers shop online

A new eco-friendly business trend is emerging as more shoppers stick the “no junk mail” sign on their letterbox and instead log onto Australia’s first carbon-free online portal, Catalogue Central.

The switch from paper to pixels comes as a result of shocking statistics suggesting that 320,000 tonnes of junk mail is delivered into Australian letter boxes each year with an estimated 80 per cent that never gets read.

“Australian consumers still want to flick through catalogues to find a bargain but increasingly prefer to do it without leaving a paper-trail,” says Catalogue Central chief executive Robert Wong, “Catalogue Central is convenient and allows people to go green without having to miss out on the latest specials”.

Browsers can flip through chosen catalogues the same way they do with a paper version, but only using the click of a mouse. And by featuring catalogues from Australia’s biggest and best-known retailers, including Myer, Dick Smith, Big W and Mart, Catalogue Central already has more 180,000 members, with up to another 10,000 new users joining the site each month.

Catalogue Central is expected to save more than 43,200 truckloads of paper this year alone and is a great alternative as more and more Australians embrace eco-friendly lifestyles.
