When it comes to ease of doing business, Sydney scores some high points. Ranking fifth in the MasterCard World Centres of Commerce Index in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and African Region, Sydney has performed better than Melbourne, which came in at ninth. And when it comes to the world economy, Sydney is 12th, ahead of cities like Shanghai, Zurich and Los Angeles.
“Sydney has demonstrated its presence both as a global economic player and as a place that helps entrepreneurs succeed,” says Leigh Clapham, executive vice president, Australasia, MasterCard Worldwide. “Overall, Sydney has ranked very well in this year’s MasterCard Worldwide Centres of Commerce Index, achieving a higher ranking overall than some of the world’s more established cities.”
Sydney is particularly strong when it comes to financial flow, ease of doing business and livability.
Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul ranked above Sydney in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and African Region.
