Dell Streak, the 5-inch over-sized phone or under-sized tablet is finally making its way to Australia with an exclusive three month deal starting October with Optus.
Dell Streak is Dell’s re-imagining of the tablet form factor, with a 5-inch screen size, it’s more bulky than your iPhone and far smaller than the iPad, but at a pinch can fit in your pocket (if you have a big pocket).
Android is the OS on the Dell Streak, with that you can expect all the usual benefits of the Android Market, Gmail integration as well as full exchange email support to sync to your business’ exchange server on the go. Unfortunately for now the Dell Streak is equipped with Android 1.6, which may limit some of the applications you can run on the device, but Dell has plans to upgrade the Streak to Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ in the future.
According to recent independent research conducted in September 2010 by telecoms and media analyst firm Telsyte, tablet computing is set to explode in Australia among business users according to Foad Fadaghi, research director at Telsyte.
“Thirty per cent of ICT business decision makers indicated they intend to adopt tablet computing within the next three years, while this figure grows to 40 per cent in larger enterprises.” Mr Fadaghi
Dell Communication Solutions president Ron Garriques expects the Streak to be a significant device in Australian business people’s lives.
“Dell has found a way to fit Australians’ whole world in a 5-inch screen. Dell Streak’s unique size will help people down under discover new ways to enjoy the web, connect with friends, and navigate their lives.” he said
Dell Streak will be available in Australia through Optus from Oct 1 for $0 on $59 cap or $649 outright.
