The inaugural Indigenous Innovation Unconference, an event designed to give the Indigenous community an opportunity to explore capacity building and sustainable development through enterprise, will take place in Sydney this weekend.
The event is a collaboration between The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) and Social Innovation Sydney, will also look at strengthening cultural identity through enterprise in a open community conversation.
The first round of key speakers include the board director of the Australian Centre for Social Innovation, Tanya Hosch, executive director of the national Congress of Australia’s First people, Lindon Coombes, CEO of the National aboriginal sporting Chance Academy, Charles Prouse and online social commentator, Luke Pearson.
According to National Centre of Indigenous Excellence CEO John Glanville, he’s seen first-hand the impact and importance of building trust between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous communities.
“For lasting change to be achieved trust must be built. The Indigenous Innovation Unconference offers a place for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to come together to connect, interact, learn from each other, and engage in community collaboration and participation.”
The expected turn out includes indigenous enterprises, social entrepreneurs, academia, government, corporate and media.
